Services
The School Nurse (5 days/week) provide services that include:
- handling 1st aid/emergencies/crisis
- vision and hearing screening
- health and development screening
- scoliosis screening
Health Office Visits
All students must have a pass from their teacher to visit the Health Office.
Sick Days
Do not send student to school with diarrhea, vomiting, fever (over 100.0 degrees (37 c)) or excessive coughing. Students must be free of symptoms for 24 hours to return to school. Students who are out ill for three days or more must have a medical doctor's note to return to school.

Medications
All medications and/or forms should be taken directly to the Health Office. If you have any questions or concerns, you can reach our school nurse @323-846-2900 press #4. By law, the school cannot administer any medication, including over the counter medication, or treatment without parent permission and a physician's order. Students are not allowed to self-medication without proper medication form in place.
No medication is allowed at school without written medical doctor's authorizations. This includes cough drops, herbal medication, over-the-counter, ointment, topical cream products, etc. See Health Office for the form the medical doctor must complete. Parents will be contact. Medication can only be released/pickup to parents/guardian of the students.
In compliance with Ed. Code Section 49423, no medication will be accepted or administered at school without ALL of the following conditions:
- A written statement signed by the licensed authorized health care provider/dentist specifying the reason for the medication, the name, dosage, time, route, side effect; and specific instructions for emergency treatment must be on file at school.
- A signed request from the parent/guardian must be on file at school.
- Medication must be delivered to the school by the parent/guardian or other responsible adult.
- Medication must be in your child's original, labeled pharmacy container written in English.
- All liquid medication must be accompanied by an appropriate measuring device.
- If pill splitting is required to obtain the correct dose of medication to be administered, only pills that are scored may be split, scored pills may be split in half only, and a commercial pill splitting device should be used for correct splitting.
- Over the counter medication that has been prescribed by an authorized health care provider must be in its original container.
- A separate form is required for each medication.
Immunization
ATTENTION 6TH GRADERS, get your TDAP Booster now and bring a copy of vaccine proof to your school nurse. Deadline for Carver TDAP is the First week of December.
If your child 10 years and older has not yet received the 'Tdap" pertussis booster shot, please contact your doctor or health department. Getting a booster shot now will protect your child against the ongoing threat of pertussis and a new school (California law - Assembly bill 354).
7th grade without proof of a Tdap booster shot will NOT be enrolled before starting school in the Fall.

CEDAR SINAI COACH FOR KIDS provides health service (Physical exam, immunization, weight management, TB screening) at no cost on a monthly services on campus. For more information, ask to speak with our school or call 1(888) 926 - 2249.
FREE OR LOW COST HEALTH COVERAGE FOR KIDS: CHAMP services for children's health insurance include: Program eligibility prescreening, enrollment, assistance, advocacy and troubleshooting, health care referrals to District & local community resources, and help in other languages. Call 1 (866) 742 - 2273.
PARENTS: if you do not have a regular provider or health insurance, contact our school nurse for school-based clinic for FREE immunizations in the area. You may also log on to the official public health website of LA County for a list of no-cost vaccine providers. Please call clinics in advance to confirm clinic hours and vaccine availability.
Notify the Health Office of any new changes in student's health.
